SPRINGFIELD, IL (Chambana Today) – Governor J.B. Pritzker, along with the Illinois Department of Revenue (IDOR), announced today that disaster tax relief will be available to individuals and businesses in southern California impacted by the wildfires that began on January 7. Affected taxpayers now have until October 15 to file state individual and business tax returns and make tax payments.

“My administration is committed to supporting those communities across southern California as they recover from the extensive damage caused by the wildfires,” said Governor Pritzker. “Residents who live or have businesses in the affected areas won’t need to worry about incurring penalties and interest on their tax deadlines until October. This additional time will allow them to gather essential paperwork without added stress.”

The relief applies to any areas designated by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), with Los Angeles County currently qualifying for the tax relief. The same relief will extend to any additional counties that are added later to the disaster zone.

Filing Instructions

Taxpayers filing by postal mail should write “2025 California Wildfires” on the return payment envelope and on the top of the tax return. If filing electronically, taxpayers must notify IDOR of their delayed filing by emailing REV.DisasterRelief@Illinois.gov. The email should include their full name, account number (last four digits of the Social Security number, if applicable), mailing address, and an estimate of when they expect to file or pay their taxes.
